Poinciana Villages is surrounded by beautiful parks. The 12,000-acre Disney Wilderness Preserve is an outdoor lover’s paradise, home to more than 1,000 species of plants and animals. APV’s own Deerwood Community Park has basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields and more. Our nearby parks feature boating ramps, picnic grounds, hiking trails, exercise facilities and other recreational attractions. Darby Park

A community park nestled in a Poinciana neighborhood, Darby Park is a great place to bring the kids on a sunny afternoon.

Deerwood Community Park

Deerwood Community Park is located off Laurel Avenue in Poinciana and is operated by the Association of Poinciana Villages. This facility offers basketball courts and both baseball and soccer fields.

Disney Wilderness Preserve

Located south of Orlando, the 12,000-acre preserve straddles the headwaters of the Everglades ecosystem. Bordered by cypress-ringed Lake Russell, with one of the area’s last undeveloped lakefronts, the preserve is home to more than 1,000 species of plants and animals. It anchors a mosaic of protected Central Florida lands where visitors can step back into time. Good educational facility with 7 miles of trails. Watch for turkeys and sandhill cranes on the drive in. On the trail, expect raptors, bobwhites, wrens, warblers, blue birds, and sparrows. Scan the lake for woodcocks, waders, snipe, king rails, and ducks. The preserve is also home to the southeastern big-eared bat, Sherman’s fox squirrel, eastern indigo snake and gopher tortoise. (The Florida panther has been documented crossing the site!)

Directions from I-4:
• Exit onto Hwy. 535 and head south.
• Follow 535 to Poinciana Blvd. Turn right (south) onto Poinciana Blvd.
• Follow Poinciana Blvd. approximately 15 miles until you reach the intersection of Poinciana Blvd. and Pleasant Hill Road. Turn right onto Pleasant Hill Rd.
• Continue to the first stop light, which is Dover Plum.
• Turn left onto Dover Plum and continue until you come to the second stop sign, which is at the end of Dover Plum.
• Turn right and shortly thereafter turn left at the first left drive onto Scrub Jay Trail following it into the preserve to the parking lot.

Ramp Type: single ramp with three lanes. Lime rock parking lot capable of accommodating 25 to 30 trailers.
Directions: Take U.S. 192 to Poinciana Boulevard. Head south on Poinciana Boulevard to Southport Road. Take a right on Southport Road and follow to the end (approximately 6 miles).

Mac Overstreet Regional Park

Mac Overstreet Regional Park, located in South Kissimmee is a beautiful 400 acre stretch of undeveloped land. Future plans include a boat ramp, picnic pavilions, restrooms and a hiking trail.

Shelby Cox Memorial Park

Lake Marion Creek / Stokes – Haines City / Lake Hamilton Area

Location: Travel about five miles east of Haines City on C.R. 580 to Lake Marion Creek Road turn east. Grassy parking area and entrance is on south side of road.
Hours: 5:30AM-8:00PM
Amenities: bird watching, picnic tables/area, hiking trails.

Brief Site History: Multiple tracts of land have been purchased since 1992 by Polk County’s Environmental Lands Program, South Florida Water Management District and United State Fish and Wildlife Service. The Stokes is managed by Polk County and the other tracts managed by South Florida Water Management District.
Description: Mosaic of plant communities including: hardwood swamps, pine flatwoods, cypress swamps, marshed, oak hammocks, scrub and streams. Lots of birds and wildlife which include: deer, turkey and gopher tortoises.
